Lost in Translation
Privacy notice
What we collect when you take the Lost in Translation survey, why, and what you can ask us to do.
Who we are
Lost in Translation is run by PRGRSS, the trading name of Global Purpose UK Limited, company number 13667768, registered at Soho Works, 180 Strand, London WC2R 1EA. We decide how your information is used, which makes us the controller. We're registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, number ZC076672.
Questions about your information: hello@thisisprgrss.com.
What we collect
- Your answers to the survey.
- If you're 18 to 30, some optional answers about your ethnic background, mental health and neurodiversity. The law calls these special category data. We only have them if you choose to answer.
- Your details. For young people: your email, and your first name if you give it. For companies, foundations and charities: your name, organisation and email, and your job title if you give it.
- What you tick: whether you're happy to chat, to send a video, to pass the survey on, and to get news from us.
- When you started and finished, and the link you came from, for example a partner's own link. The survey itself doesn't set cookies.
- If you buy the report: your name, email, what you bought and your payment reference. Stripe takes the payment. We never see your card details.
Why we use it
How we keep your answers confidential
- Your details and your answers are kept in separate tables. The only link between them is a reference code.
- Only the small PRGRSS team running the research can see them.
- We only publish results for groups of 10 people or more, like "large companies said". We never publish your name or your organisation's name, unless you give us a separate written yes for that exact use.
- We may quote what you wrote in your own words, without your name, after taking out anything that could identify you or your organisation.
- People who buy the report or sponsor the research never see individual answers, or who took part.
- We never sell your information.
Who else handles it for us
We use these services to run the survey. They only use your information on our instructions.
- Airtable, which stores the answers and your details. Airtable is based in the US. The transfer is covered by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum in Airtable's data processing addendum.
- Stripe, if you buy the report.
- Google Workspace, which runs our email. We use it to send you the summary.
- Vercel, which hosts this website.
How long we keep it
- Your details: until two years after the report is published, so we can follow up on anything you said yes to and invite you to the next edition. Then we delete them. If you asked for news from us, we keep your email until you tell us to stop.
- Your answers: once your details are deleted, your answers can't be linked back to you. We keep them so we can compare with future years.
- Payment records: 6 years, as UK law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, stop using it, or give you a copy. You can take back your consent at any time. Email hello@thisisprgrss.com with the reference on your thank you screen, or the email you used. If findings are already published we can't change them, but we'll take your answers out of anything we do next. We reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Age
The young people's survey is only for people aged 18 to 30. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we find we have, we delete it.
Changes
If we change this notice, we'll change the version and date at the top.
